Discovery Medical aid
- Earn Vitality Points:
Earn up to 1 000 Vitality points for annual consultations done with the dietician.
If the consultations are claimed on your behalf, directly from the medical aid, your points will be awarded automatically. If settling your account privately, the invoice can be uploaded online and submitted onto your virtual Vitality profile to claim your points.
Existing clients are encouraged to book a 30-minute follow up appointment for useful information to improve your diet, set realistic health goals or help keep you motivated and focused to continue your health eating journey. New clients are encouraged to schedule an Initial, 50-minute, consultation for a thorough nutritional assessment to learn more about your eating habits and gain new insights into living a healthy balanced lifestyle.
2. the WELLTH fund in 2023.
You and your family will have access to a once-off, additional risk benefit called the WELLTH Fund, offering up to R10 000 per family to empower clients to understand and address personal healthcare needs. The value of the benefit is allocated according to the size and make up of each family.
It is automatically activated once all members (from 2 years of age) have completed a Health check. This health check is covered by the existing Screening and Prevention Benefit.
Each person will have access to a physical wellbeing screening at a dietician once the WELLTH fund has been approved. Visit the Discovery website for more information.
3. Disease Prevention Program:
Discovery Health Medical Scheme offers a Disease Prevention Programme designed to support members who are at risk of developing diabetes or cardiovascular disease to improve health outcomes and quality of life.
This programme, together with your Premier Plus GP, supported by your Discovery Health Coach and a Dietitian in our network, will help you actively manage your risk of developing a chronic condition. The programme gives you additional benefits to monitor and manage your health and to ensure you get high quality coordinated healthcare and improved outcomes.
Members whose assessment results indicate a high risk of developing diabetes or cardiovascular disease, may be eligible for the programme. From here your Premier Plus GP may enrol eligible members on the programme
This program allows for up to 2x 50 minute consultations with the Dietician
- Weight management program:
The Fedhealth Weight Management Programme is designed for qualifying members with a high BMI and waist circumference. This benefit is available every two years.
Under this programme, members participate in a 12-week, biokineticist-led intervention plan that gives them access to a dietician and behavioural psychologist with the goal to lose the excess weight and lead healthier, more rewarding lives. Once the programme is completed, ongoing advice and monitoring is also made available to the member.
- Individual or group exercise and reassessment sessions with a biokineticist
- Referral to a dietician for 1x initial consultation and 1x follow-up
- Referral to a psychologist for one consultation

For qualifying members, the wellness extender can be used to pay for extra consultations and treatments with a dietician, GP, biokineticist, or physiotherapist. This allows for 1x 50-60 minute-consultation with a dietician.
- TEMPO Program
Bestmed’s Tempo Programme provides all its members (16yrs and older) on all options, with Tempo Benefits. To participate in the Tempo Programme, members are requested to do a Health Assessment (HA) Biometric Screening test at Dischem or Clicks. This then qualifies members for 2x dietician consultations: 1x initial consultation – either at the office or virtually, 1x follow up consultation.
A consultation with a dietician also makes them eligible for a free gift (stock dependant) from BestMed to help you on your health journey.
