Shana Terhart Young
BSc Human Life Sciences (US) + BSc Med (Hons) in Dietetics and Nutrition (UCT)
Shana specializes in Eating Disorder therapy and support for both adolescents and adults dealing with conditions like anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, avoidant restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID), body image concerns, emotional eating, and chronic dieting cycles. Her passion is to empower individuals to lead fulfilling, balanced lives beyond the grip of these disorders. She employs nutritional therapy, intuitive eating principles, and dietetic expertise.
Shana holds a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology from the University of Stellenbosch, followed by a Bachelor of Science Medical Honors degree specializing in Dietetics and Nutrition from the University of Cape Town. After completing her community service in the Gauteng Province, she joined the Cape Dieticians team. In 2018, she assumed ownership of the practices and expanded her knowledge in eating disorder treatment and recovery through national and international courses.
Collaborating with psychologists, psychiatrists, occupational therapists, counselors, and clients’ families, Shana provides holistic support to individuals struggling with mental health issues and seeking recovery from eating disorders.
Outside of the office, Shana enjoys quality time at home or outdoors with her husband, their beautiful daughter, and close friends and family. She also indulges her creative side by engaging in activities like watercolour painting, drawing, and crafting when she can find the time.
Andrea Jacobs
BSc in Dietetics (Hons) (UWC)
Andrea believes that the foods we eat can either heal or harm us, bringing forth lifestyle diseases. It is for this reason that she is passionate about delivering the proper nutritional information to her clients. Treating both children and adults, Andrea assists clients with healthy eating, weight gain, irritable bowel syndrome, as well as lifestyle diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, insulin resistance and weight loss. She believes in educating clients so that they may have more control over implementing healthy food choices into their daily lives.
Andrea is a clinical and private practicing dietitian who shall be working at Kuils River private practice, as well as a nearby private hospital.
Andrea Jacobs obtained her Bachelor of Science Degree in Dietetics in 2011, from the University of the Western Cape, before completing her community service year at Uitenhage Provincial Hospital, in the Eastern Cape, in 2012. She became permanent staff at that hospital for another year before returning to Cape Town in 2013. Since then Andrea has gained experience working at different private practices and hospitals around Cape Town.
Laura Calitz
BSc. Dietetics (Hons) (US)
Laura is passionate about equipping her clients to make healthy dietary and lifestyle changes while allowing them to build a healthy relationship with food.
She completed her Bachelors in Science degree in 2010 at the University of Stellenbosch. She then did her community service in the Karoo where she then stayed on another year. In 2013 she returned back to Cape Town where she has gained experience working for NGO’s, different private practices and also large corporate health companies.
Laura firmly believes that balance is key. Each patient is different and she has an individualised approach with each one. She believes in setting realistic nutritional goals to help clients achieve improved health outcomes, within their individual lifestyle. Laura assists adults with weight management, lifestyle diseases, gestational diabetes, IBS and many other health and nutritional related conditions. She also works with children in the management of paediatric weight changes and nutritional therapy of those with childhood diabetes, allergies, eating difficulties and Prader- Willi syndrome.
